Turpentine
Dala Artists Turpentine is a high quality oil paint medium and is used for thinning oil paints. By thinning your oil paint, you speed up the drying time, but you may also thin your paint to make your brush move faster, for instance, if you wanted to quickly under-paint a large area. Sold in a 250ml Bottle.Purified Linseed Oil
Dala Linseed oil is an amber-colored, fatty oil extracted from the cotyledons and inner coats of the linseed. Dala linseed oil is used as an oil paint dilutent, either on its own or in combination with Dala Artists Turpentine. It could also be added to the paint to provide a glossier, richer surface. Sold in a 250ml Bottle.Clear Varnish
Used to protect acrylic and oil paintings. Once applied, Dala Artist Clear Varnish will protect valuable artwork and, should it become tarnished with time due to air pollution, it can be removed with Dala Artist Turpentine to reveal the original work in all its original glory, regardless of how long it has been on the surface of the artwork. Dala Artist Clear Varnish will never yellow or bloom.
Uses of Dala Artist Clear Varnish:
Dala Artist Clear Varnish is primarily intended as a varnish to protect both oil and acrylic paintings. Acrylic paintings can be varnished once it has dried, whilst oil paintings need to cure for twelve months before the varnish is applied. If the varnish is applied to wet oil paint, linseed in the oil paint will be starved of oxygen and it will never cure correctly.
The varnish is also used extensively in craft as a poster paint, tempera, decoupage or craft varnish. It furthermore has incredible adhesive properties and is used extensively in the 3D-decoupage craft.
Sold in a 100ml Glass Bottle.
Canvas Primer
This product is a pure acrylic, high PVC (pigment volume content) canvas primer. It is water based and may be diluted with water or Dala Acrylic Glaze Medium.Traditionally, canvases where prepared with both a size (usually an animal by-product glue) and a ground (‘tooth’). Our primer is a modern formulation of the size and the ground. A first layer is painted directly onto the canvas and allowed to dry. A second layer is then painted with the brushstrokes running at a right angle to the first. More layers may be added, depending on the texture required.
Water colourists could sand the primed canvas with fine grit sandpaper for a perfect surface texture. For oil painters, it is imperative that they protect their canvas. Linseed oil used in oil paints, dries by a slow oxidation process, which could cause unprotected canvas to rot and destroy the painting. Acrylic painters have no problem with the archival properties of canvas. Their binder medium is synthetic and will protect the canvas against rot. They can still prime the surface to prepare it for painting, as most acrylic painter do. Sold in a 500ml Screw Top Jar.
